September 4th will begin the expansion of our Calvary Scrip Program. Richard Enriquez will be on hand to sell scrip “gift cards” in the Parish Hall following the services of Holy Eucharist at 8:00am and 10:30 am There is no costs to this program. It simply is a means of directing normal retail purchases of gas, groceries, and restaurant expenses through the Calvary Scrip Program. More than 100 retail establishments are represented in the program. Calvary Church will benefit from approximately a 3-8% return on purchases made through the Scrip Program.
September 4th also begins sign-ups for a New Photo Church Directory. Chris Perrin and Melinda Martin will be on hand in the Parish Hall to make appointments for Olin Mills Photography studios who will be at the church October 12 – 15. All who participate in the program will receive a $25 gift certificate towards a family or individual photo. In addition the church receives $2 in credit for every family unit that sits for a photo session.
Book Table: Al Reetz and Patrick Dexter will occasionally be manning a book table in the Parish Hall at Coffee Hour following the 8:00 and 10:30 am services of Holy Eucharist. Immediately available will be the recently published book by Bishops Mary Gray-Reeves and Michael Perham, The Hospitality of God. Many of the Diana Butler Bass’ books will also be available. In addition we have a limited number of Bishop Shalita’s autobiography for sale, From Goatskin to Woolen Suit
U2+2charist: September 11th a fundraising dinner and Eucharist for the Calvary Food Pantry. This Eucharist is a celebration of compassion and commemorates the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attack. An offering for the Calvary Food Pantry will be taken. 23% of the homeless population are veterans who should be recognized as collateral victims of the 9/11 tragedy. There are many veterans from the two gulf wars who avail themselves of our services at the Calvary Food Pantry and Monday Night Coffeehouse. At 5:00 pm there will be a Spaghetti Dinner –cost $10 and $5 for children. The U2+2charist will begin at 7:00 pm.
Evening Guild: Thursday, September 15th at 6:00, and every 3rd Thursday of the month.
All are welcome for a potluck meal and fellowship.
Needlework Guild: We will resume meetings Monday September 19th. Stitch and chat in the Fireside room from 1-3 every 1st and 3rd Monday. Bring you unfinished projects that have been sitting around – knitting, crochet, needlepoint embroidery, and quilting.
ECW: Friday, September 23rd : The business meeting will begin at 10am sharp. The ECW will elect officers and lay out a plan for the year. The Centering Prayer presentation will begin at 10:30.
A Centering Prayer with The Rev. Deacon Kathleen Crowe. For our opening ECW program on Friday, September 23rd, we are honored to have the Reverend Deacon Kathleen Crowe present a program on Centering Prayer, a spiritual discipline to practice quieting the mind and the emotions so that God’s life and grace can work more easily in us and through us. Her teaching is based on the writings of Fr. Thomas Keating and Fr. Basil Pennington. This program is open to everyone, male and female, church members and friends. You are also invited to bring a sandwich and join us for lunch after the program. Please let Sally Green know if you plan to be present so we can provide enough salad and dessert for everyone.
Exploring our Destiny and Destination: Sunday, September 25th. The Reverend John Buenz is preaching at both 8:00 and 10:30 am services with a pot luck following.. We will be forming small groups to meet in October with the goal of examining the values at Calvary Church and endeavor to redefine our mission as a parish. There are plans for three house meetings which will explore our individual experience of practice, tradition, and wisdom in the church, and how the church has formed us to be the people that we are today. Plans are to record interviews with Bishop Mary Gray-Reeves, Father John Buenz and Father Donald Schell to get us started in our sharing. |
