Reflections from the Annual General Meeting

By Josh Reinke

Every January, hundreds of Episcopal parishes in the United States come together over food and friendship for their annual General Meetings. Some are wild affairs, with shouting, anger and a few tears. Most are tame events, a chance for the congregation to come together and celebrate a year of success and growth. Luckily for Calvary, we fell into the latter category.

This General Meeting, Calvary elected a new Vestry and Delegates to the Diocesan Convention in the fall. The Vestry is the legislative body of Calvary (and most Episcopal churches) and it goes without saying that a Vestry can “make or break” a church year. Diocesan delegates represent Calvary to the wider world of the Diocese of El Camino Real, as well as to the several Deaneries in our Diocese. Calvary is a member of the Monterey Deanery.

Overall, the elections of the Vestry and Delegates went smoothly and without any hiccups or problems. It can be comfortably said that Calvary is in good hands, and 2011 looks even brighter than 2010.

The new Vestry members (Class of 2014) are: Richard Enriquez, Chris Perrin, John Vesecky, Cathy Watson, Tony Nickel (1 year term). Youth Vestry member (appointed by Father Joel with voice and no vote) Joshua Reinke. The new Diocesan Delegates are:

Martha Dexter, Allison Gong, Joshua Reinke, John Stormes, Robert Mackay (alternate), and Sally Green (alternate).
